Bidding Has Begun on THE 100 ARTISTS PROJECT!!!

To stop by the eBay auction, CLICK HERE!

The 100 Artists Project is a charity endeavor created to help raise money for the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund and the Hero Intiative.

What you are bidding on is 100 pieces of original artwork from such artists as Travel Foreman, Adam Koford, Nate Lovett, Len Peralta, Jeremy Dale, and yours truly: Rian Miller.

Each piece is roughly 9x12 and ranges from penciled art to inked and colored to full paint. There are no reproductions, this is all completely original art.

For the past 9 months, the 100 Artists Project has collection art from all over the world in order to support two funds that have been helping artists for over 20 years. Now it's your turn to help. 100% of the proceeds go directly to the selected charities and in the process you receive 100 pieces of fantastic art.

It's a win win.

This project runs primarily off word of mouth. If you aren't able to bid, but know someone who is, please let them know. The more people know about the auction, the more money we can raise for the funds.

If you are interested in the project, you can stop by the main site at 100artistsproject.com where you can find information, interviews and news.

There's new art coming (trust me), but in the meantime I've got something new to share with my loyal masses. My friend and associate Jesse Munoz and I have just launched the first episode of a new podcast which we will be recording weekly called Sidetracked. Be sure to swing by the official home and blog of the show at The Sidetracked Podcast, or you can download an MP3 of the show to listen to on your computer or iPod here: Right click to save

Also, you can check out the first episode in streaming audio via this player:

NEW ART
Woah! What happened?! No updates in almost a month? Jeez, I've been a bad little internet savvy artist. Let's see...excuses... Well, National Novel Writing Month rolled around again at the beginning of November, so I've been working nightly on my new sci-fi/horror novel which is currently going by the title of "Earth Borne". I've also been...uh...isn't that one excuse enough? I think so. Anyway, I've tossed three new sketches up in the Sketches & Design section of the Portfolio, so be sure to stop by and check those out. There's two more cute scene chicks and a big, naked dude. Hey, I gotta provide something for the ladies too, right? It's only fair after so many girly drawings, I think.

Be sure to drop by my deviantArt page sometime to read a little more about the sketches and other bits of art that I post here, and if you're interested in checking out the progress of my novel or perhaps even to read an excerpt from it, you can swing by my NaNoWriMo page. Oh, and I'm also selling off some of my action figure collection and even a few choice comics on eBay these days. You can stop by and see what I've got up for grabs by clicking here.

NEW ART
Sometimes you just can't get your brain and your hand to work together on comic book pages, so you have no choice but to give up and draw a cute chick. Check out the Sketches & Design section of the Portfolio for some new cute chick action.

NEW ART
Wow...over a month's hiatus. What gives? I'll tell you what gives. First, I've been working on a new book. My associate Jesse Munoz and I have resurrected the book we've been tackling on and off for the past few years once again. This time we're aiming to self-publish, so between Jesse drawing pages and me writing scripts and doing some pages for the book myself, we've been keeping pretty busy. I won't be posting any of my pages for the book here though, so as not to spoil the fun for when the book itself comes out. I've tossed a few sample images up on my deviantArt account if you'd like to swing by there and check them out, though. Jesse tells me it's some of the best work I've done to date, but he might just be trying to keep me happy so I'll keep writing scripts. You can look at the previews and judge that for yourself.

Aside from Broken Legacy I haven't been doing much, because that's what most of my time has been dedicated to recently. However I did toss two new pics into the Sketches & Design portion of the portfolio for your viewing pleasure. First is a quick sketch/portrait of a friend of mine based on a photo I found on her Facebook account. The second piece is a pixelated version of myself that I made in Photoshop for a new ID Tag on deviantArt. I never would have thought that pixel art could be so time consuming or difficult to create, but it was a pain in the ass for me, especially since Photoshop isn't one of my strong suits. It is what it is, though, and I think it turned out alright. Don't expect to see me doing anymore pixel art in the future, though. That's about it for now. When I've completed my five pages for the first issue of Broken Legacy I'm going to start on an eight page story for a collaboration with another old classmate of mine. More on that when I get to it. In the meantime, keep coming back to check out the site because who knows when I'll feel the urge to throw something new up here. It could be in the middle of the night...it could be when you least expect it. Yeah...more to come.

NEW ART
The other day I picked up the eleventh (and newest) volume of 100 Bullets and read through it to find that my favorite character in the book is now dead. In the Illustration section of the portfolio you can now see the inkwashed and full color versions of my homage to Wylie Times.

Comic book artist Mike Wieringo died of a heart attack at the age of 44 this weekend. First Seth Fisher, and now this. I never met Mike, but by getting to know him so well through his artwork over the years and reading the blog posts on his website, I feel like I knew him. Based on my knowledge of him, Mike was a very kind, personable guy. Dare I use the word wholesome? You could tell how much fun he had drawing just by looking at his art, and I think that translated into the fans who were affected by it. Personally, I think he's one of the best artists ever to grace the pages of a Spiderman comic book. I even wrote him an e-mail from a friend's computer years and years ago before I even had the internet in my home because I found out that he was leaving a long run on Spiderman and wanted to let him know that he would be missed on that title. Now I feel that he'll be missed every Wednesday for the rest of my life when I enter the comic book store and his exciting, fancy-free style is absent from the shelves. I have no relation to Mike Wieringo, nor have I ever even met him in person, but he's made an impact on my life and he will be greatly missed. Goodbye Mike. The world is a more beautiful place because of you, and it will remain so though you're gone.

It's 4 AM and I'm out the door to North Carolina, then from there to San Diego for the Comic Con. Updates when I get back. Peace!

Both the inked and colored versions of Plague Of Jewels page 2 are now available for perusal in the Sequential section of the portfolio.

NEW ART
You know that page of Plague Of Jewels that I posted earlier? Well, I decided to throw some really quick colors on it. It's nothing special, but I tried to emulate the feel of those old pulp horror stories from back in the day. You can check it out in the Sequential section of the portfolio.

NEW ART
Two pages in one day? You bet. In the Sequential section of the portfolio you can now find the sixth and final page of the Alex Meggitt-penned The Kingdom's Intelligencer as well as the first page of a new series of pages that I'm working on titled Plague Of Jewels. This story originally appeared in The Twisted Tales Of Bruce Jones #2 back in 1986, written and drawn by Jones himself. I've opted to interpret the story in my own style simply to beef up my narrative portfolio. With San Diego rapidly approaching, hopefully I can get a few more pages churned out before I leave. Cross your fingers for me.

NEW ART
Yikes. Almost a month between posts. That can't be good. Well, maybe it can, because I've been doing some work. Evidence of this can now be found in the Illustration section of the portfolio in the form of a new pin-up. I initially began the drawing to commemorate my reaching 1,000 page views on deviantArt. At the end of the day though, it's just one more piece that I can put into my portfolio for San Diego (which is rapidly approaching, by the way). So go on over to the portfolio and check out the battle between Superpatriot and Ladytron.
